Cherry Blossoms in Washington

It was such a beautiful day and I took a nice walk. The traffic was not too bad; I was there around noon.

Later - a week and a day after the storm

Well, I got out to go to the Podiatrist this morning, then got stuck coming back in. I was in the alley where I have to turn to go behind the house. What was interesting was the fact that there was a grown man looking from the entrance to the alley - watching every move I made. I walked to the house and got Adam's little metal shovel and was breaking up the ice in front of the four tires when a young man, he looked about 17-18 came walking by. He said "stuck, huh?" I said "yes" (I mean, why would I be digging otherwise) then he said "tough" and kept right on walking. So much for chivalry. After digging twice, I finally got enough traction to get to my driveway. I will go to Sue's tomorrow, so I will see what happens then. I will not do the temple trip tomorrow night though. I would hate to get stuck around 10pm, so I will not take the chance. I hope more melts tomorrow.
The big mound of snow is the corner of Longfellow and First streets. Then there is the alley I came in from Kennedy Street and the last photo is Adam and Cynthia's dug out parking spot and the rest of the street. When they say on tv that DC is in good shape, they definitely mean the main roads!

Snowing again

Monday afternoon, and snowing again. I have heard predictions from a trace to 5"- whatever.
I just walked out for a bit - going crazy from sitting so much. This is the alley entrance about 6' from Longfellow Street with the Kennedy Street entrance in the background. Still too much for my car to get through. And you can see the snow that has just begun to fall.

I will never get out of here.

For the top two photos, I went up the steps to Cynthia and Adam's back door for a good view of my yard.
Tamera was kind enough to pick me up and carry me to the grocery store. I walked and met her at the CVS store, but when we came back she put me off at the front of the house (I had four bags) and I came in thru the house. I thought this photo from her front porch was neat.
And the last photo was sent to me by a friend......hey, I understand the feelings behind it!

Blizzard of 2010

We are officially under a Blizzard Warning until 7 p.m tonight. One of the above photos was taken through the window in my bathroom; you can see it is through the screen. The large mound directly in front is snow on the heat pump....... My entrance door is actually about 8' - 10' away from direct weather. I stepped out 18" at the most, and my door had a small amount of snow blown up against it, my welcome mat is covered, the stairs leading up to Cynthia's back door are packed and you can see where a "mound" of snow has blown directly in my path. That is the view from my door and the the other photo is from 18"outside. Needless to say, I have no idea how I will dig out of this with that little shovel I have been using. See you in a few weeks maybe? AND, I did not tarry but a few seconds, the wind chill is 7 degrees.

My Snow Saga Continues

I call these my "between the storms" photos. The weather forecast for tomorrow night is more snow - though not nearly as much as this past weekend. I had begun to clear a small "footpath" to my alley yesterday and had gotten about half way when the four elders came by. They were kind enough to finish my path, clear off my car (I went out earlier today and swept a little more off of it) and they cleaned the steps to Cynthia and Adam's back door. I still will not be going anywhere anytime soon as the last two photos show my alley - both directions - and my car will never make it through that. Of course, the city does not (and should not) clear alleys, so I hope someday soon the garbage trucks will break a path. Of course, eventually, it will melt - after all, it is only 23 more days 'til Spring!

More Snow

It is now 12:45 - still snowing. I ventured out about 3' to get a couple more snapshots. Even the garbage can looks pretty with the snow on it. And I can only see part of the frame for my swing. I measured the beginning of my walk, which was clear before the snow began, and we have 20.5 inches at this time.
