Holiday Reception at the White House

My friend, Lily Claude, who is a White House switchboard operator, invited me to be her guest today at the Holiday Reception in the White House. It was truly a remarkable experience for me and a memory I will never forget. Thank you, Lilia!

President and Michelle Obama did come and made a very short, nice speech. While I did not vote for him, I did shake hands with each of them; when will I ever have another opportunity to shake hands with the President of the United States......and I do respect that office!

As you would expect, the Gingerbread House was truly incredible. Even the garden looked great. Someone did a most fantastic job.

Complete with a children's choir and a band. That is one huge piano!

The food was wonderful and plentiful. It truly was delicious. Plenty of wine was available, but we settled for plain water - or sparkling water.

And no - I did not eat all the dessert, but I sampled all that was on my plate.

Let's see - shrimp, crab, salmon, ham, beef roast and turkey; too many vegetables to name, but the tiny roasted potatoes were the greatest of them all, followed by the asparagus.

It was truly an enjoyable experience!

A few of the many, many trees.

Very pretty decorations - everywhere.

The wreath's were absolutely stunning. I did not even photograph them all!

National Arboretum

Lydia Mathews and I spent a couple of hours at the Arboretum today. Cynthia had taken me years ago, but it was nice to visit again. I want to go back when the spring flowers/trees are in bloom.
